Top Five Hardwood Killing Insects
There are many insects that attack hardwood trees which ultimately cause death or devalue a tree in the urban landscape and rural forest to the point where they need to be cut. Here are five of the most costly and aggressive insects have been most troublesome to foresters and landowners.à We have ranked these insects according to their potential ability to cause both commercial wood product damage and aesthetic landscape degradation. The Top Hardwood Tree Killing Insects Gypsy Moth: The exotic gypsy moth is one of the most notorious pests of hardwood trees in the Eastern United States. Since 1980, the gypsy moth larvae have defoliated close to a million or more forested acres each year. The moth was introduced into the United States in 1862.The insect lays visible buff-colored egg masses as leaves emerge in the spring. These masses hatch into hungry larvae that quickly defoliate hardwoods. Several defoliations can frequently kill trees under stress.Emerald Ash Borer: The emerald ash borer (EAB ) is an exotic, wood-boring beetle discovered in Michigan in 2002. EAB is blamed for killing millions of ash trees annually and forcing regional quarantines on exportingà firewood and tree nursery stock in several states. This ash borer could potentially decimate arboricultural ash plantings and natural ash stands in the eastern United States. The EAB larvae feed on the cambial bark. These S-shaped feeding galleries will kill limbs and can ultimately girdle th e tree.à Infested ash trees exhibited a top-down crown dieback, dense sprouting from trunks (epicormic shoots), and other signs of tree stress including the yellowing of foliage called the ash yellows.Asian Longhorn Beetles/Borers: This group of insects includes the exotic Asian longhorned beetle (ALB). The ALB was first found in Brooklyn, New York in 1996 but has now been reported in 14 states and threatening more. The adult insects lay eggs in an opening in the bark. The larvae then bore large galleries deep into the wood. These feeding galleries disrupt the vascular functioning of the tree and eventually weaken the tree to the point that the tree literally falls apart and dies.Elm Bark Beetle: The native elm bark beetle and/or the European elm bark beetle is critical for the overland spread of Dutch elm disease (DED) and is worthy of being included in this worst list. The beetle does not critically harm a tree by its boring butà by transporting a deadly tree disease. The DED fu ngus is transmitted to healthy trees in two ways:à 1) this bark beetleà transmits spores from diseased to healthy trees and 2) root grafting can also spread the disease when elms are tightly spaced. None of the native North Americanà elms are immune to DED but the American elm is especially susceptible.Tent Caterpillars: The eastern tent caterpillarà (ETC) and forest tent caterpillars (FTC) are first seen in the spring in eastern U.S. deciduous forests. The ETC makes its nest in the fork of branches. The FTC actually builds no tent but is by far the most destructive of the two.The favorite food of tent caterpillars is wild cherry but oaks, maples, and many other shade and forest trees are attacked. The FTC can strip extensive stands of trees of all leaves. The attacked trees growth is affected.

The Marginal Skills and Concept Samples â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Marginal Skills and Concept. Answer: Introduction The Managerial Skills and Concept subject will reflect on the ideas like personal development model, Maslow Hierarchy of needs, Johari window model, a model of collaboration which will help students to learn and become the upcoming Chief Executive Officer (Evertson and Weinstein 2013). The students will learn the leadership and managerial skills and will explain what has been taught through group activities, individual assessment and work practice. This report will showcase the required managerial concepts in details presented in the Managerial Skills and Concept subject and will focus on the learning outcome of the students. The original ideas of what can learn about this subject The Managerial Skills and Concept subject elaborates the concepts of Organisational Based Self Esteem model, personal development model, Senge model, Maslow Hierarchy of needs, Johari window model, a model of collaboration, innovation, creativity. All these concepts are required to know for acquiring the leadership qualities, managerial skills and understanding behaviour of humans (Evertson and Weinstein 2013). These concepts will prepare the students for the role of the Chief Executive Officer in the course of time. Three things that have been learnt to undertake this subject One can learn many concepts from the Managerial Skills and Concept subject, out of which, the Johari Window Model, Maslows Hierarchy of Needs, a model of collaboration will be discussed in this report. The Johari Window Model The Johari Window model (Refer to Appendix C) is a tool which is used to develop self-awareness, it also helps to grow a good rapport between the individuals within a specific group. This model focuses mainly on soft skills, behaviours and mutual development (Saxena 2015). The Johari Window consists of four distinct regions; the first region demonstrates a persons details about which everyone is aware of, the second region demonstrates a persons details those are unknown to everybody, the third region demonstrates what the person knows about himself or herself that is unknown to all others, the fourth or the last region demonstrates a persons details which are not only unknown to him or her but also to everyone (Saxena 2015). Maslows Hierarchy of Needs Maslows Hierarchy of Needs (Refer to Appendix D) can be classified into three categories which can again be categorised into five more models. The three categories are self-fulfilment, psychological needs, basic needs. Self-fulfilment can be divided into self-actualization. (Niemela and Kim 2014). Psychological needs can be divided into two parts-esteem needs and social needs. Esteem needs mean respect, status and feeling of accomplishment. Social needs involve intimate relationships among family members and friends. Lastly, basic needs can be divided into safety needs and physiological needs, safety needs deal with security and safety of oneself and physiological needs involve basic needs to survive that is food, water, bathing, warmth and rest (Lester 2013). A model of collaboration A model of collaboration (Refer to Appendix B) illustrates that individuals in a particular team must be responsible, the individuals must have proper knowledge of the products to deal with, should be respectful to each other, must be trustful, should have an intimacy, that means the individuals will have to work hand in hand, have to help each other in needs. Therefore, all these collaborations together form a great team work (Sein-Echaluce et al. 2015). The most valuable learning outcome of this course The Johari windows model helps to learn to share information, to build trust and belief and build up mutual relationships in a team. The model enables people to connect each other and coordinate with each other. Overall, this model allows identifying ones competence, priorities and attitudes (Costa, Passos and Bakker 2014). On the other hand, Maslows hierarchy of needs motivates the people to fulfil the lower level needs along with the higher level needs. The lower level needs need to be satisfied first as the lower level needs are the elementary needs. The other four top levels are the complex ones and can influence behaviour or nature and these are all the necessary aspects. A model of collaboration helps people to work together, it basically integrates people to get the required job done (Costa, Passos and Bakker 2014). The value of in-class activities A model of collaboration is already being discussed in class and so it can be stated as in class activities. A model of collaboration aids people to work in a team, it also aids people to share each other knowledge, it also enables people to respect one another, to trust one another and to create intimacy among themselves (Mumford 2014). A better intimacy means better understanding among themselves, all these collaborations are required for better team work. The passing balls exercise is one sort of team work, a team can be successful only if all the players have the knowledge of the game, if the players show respect towards each other, if they trust each other a help each other in needs. The student has the experience and has applied the model in real (Mumford 2014). The value of workshop activities The workshop activities involve the implementation of the proper strategy, measurable, assignable, realistic measures and time bound. At first, the specific intention of a particular goal needs to be addressed, then measures will have to be taken to achieve the desired goal. After all planning and strategies, it is the time to implement the plan in real, so, one has to take the responsibility to assign the task. The assignee will have to be vigilant to make all the plans realistic (Tough 2014). The assigner will also have to know the time frame within which the specific task can be completed. Let us assume, Mr and Mrs AN decide to make a trip to Thailand (Refer to Appendix E). That is a strategy, after that Mr and Mrs AN will have to make plans and have to prepare a budget that is less than $5,000, so that comes under measurable; between Mr and Mrs AN, one will have to assign the task, have to be watchful to make the whole task realistic within a specific time frame (Mumford 2014). The value of in-class discussions Lots of concepts have been discussed in-class, philosophical, economic and political strategies fiduciary responsibility have been well discussed, a lots have been discussed on leadership, aligning MI, MC and EI strategies, Organisational Based Self Esteem model, personal development model, Senge model, Maslow Hierarchy of needs, Johari window model, a model of collaboration, innovation, creativity all have thoroughly discussed (Dodd 2016). It has also been taught to write a report, an argument, a deductive report, reflective writing and lots more. The students are taught to write the reports in specific formats, and the formatting styles, referencing styles have been thoroughly explained in the class. The students can get an overview of writing a well-presented report. The students can learn theproject management concepts and based on the learning outcome the students can prepare reports too (Dodd 2016). The Blue Ocean Strategy has been well demonstrated. This strategy basically involves a comparison among all the competitors in an industry and find out the best possible solution for a particular company to stay ahead of others in that industry (Kim and Mauborgne 2014). In this way, competition can be minimised and any company following Blue Ocean Strategy can have a different business strategy to earn profits and benefits (Kim and Mauborgne 2014). The value of all assessment tasks The personal development model proposed by Kolb, Honey and Mumford highlights the value of assessment tasks. The researchers proposed a learning and development strategy for individuals assessment (Refer to Appendix A). At first, comes the cognitive apprenticeship, cognitive apprenticeship is a process where one who is skilled enough in a particular subject teaches that particular skills to apprentice (Tough 2014). Cognitive apprenticeship involves exploration, coaching, fading, modelling, scaffolding; next, comes the personal development and this personal development plans involve the complicated, interspersed learning mission. Lastly, comes the experiential learning which includes successive learning cycles. Therefore, the cognitive apprenticeship, personal development plans, experiential learning all together form the three levels individual learning experience (Tough 2014). The individual assessment provides great benefits in writing deductive reports and this individual writing assignment serves as a pillar to the experiential learning cycle, the students write good reports and get appraisals depending on merits, this encourages the students to perform well. The value of the group assessment task and in-class activities The SMART goal supports the students in understanding the subject properly and completes the MBA program. The SMART goals involve the creation of a Linkedin profile and creation of Curriculum Vitae to get a good job after the MBA (David 2016). The students can even get benefit from the group assessment. The group main objective generally remains to get high score or distinctions on the group assessment. That is why the students who are dedicated work diligently, complete the assessment and get distinction result (David 2016). Conclusion It can be concluded from the above discourse that the students have been greatly benefitted from the Managerial Skill and Concept models. The workshop activities and group assignment educate the students to collaborate and work together as a team. The in-class discussion and the in-class activities meet the expectation of students and the objectives of the MBA program. The students will be able to grasp the managerial and leadership skills of the course that are required to become a CEO. The most significant learning outcome is to create a SMART goal, as only a well-organised goal will help the students to learn the objectives and graduate the MBA program. 5 Tips for Making the Most of Your Journal Submission Cover Letter
5 Tips for Making the Most of Your Journal Submission Cover Letter Whether you plan to publish your research in a top-tier journal or in a lesser known publication, writing an impactful cover letter is a must. Editors use these letters to sift through the mounds of manuscripts they receive on a weekly basis and will judge the merits of your abilities as a researcher and writer based on them. In short- a cover letter is your opportunity to make the editor want to read more.In this article, Im going to cover five useful tips for making the most of the opportunity to catch an editors attention with a well-written cover letter.A well-written cover letter is the best way to get an editors attention if you want to publish your research in an academic journal. Photo by Andisheh A on Unsplash.Do your researchAcademic and peer-reviewed journals vary in their reach and audience. Some might publish a broad scope of topics but most are focused on certain fields of study, which means that editors know exactly what will fit in their publication and what wont. Sen ding your research to a journal without knowing their audience is a waste of time and effort, particularly if your research is outside of the journals scope.Research of the publications goals and aims, as well as prior studies they have published, will go a long way in ensuring that you dont waste your time (or the editors). Taking the time to do some background research will help you plan which journal you should send your manuscript to and which journal will be most likely to publish it.In the same sense, you should find out all you can about the person who will be reading your cover letter and making a decision on whether to include it in the publication. For example, you should address the editor by name in the salutation. If you dont know the editors name, find a recent copy of the publication or go online to look it up. It also never hurts to call the journal and ask who the editor is and make sure you have the name spelled correctly. Addressing the editor as Dear Madam or Dea r Sir, or addressing your letter to a prior editor of the publication shows that havent done the legwork needed to find the best fit for your research. After youve introduced the title of your paper, the author(s), and what type of research it is (a case study, review, etc.), it will be important to focus on why you think your work is a good fit for the publication. If the journal has published research related to the topic youve chosen, point that out by writing the title(s) and the date published. If they have published a study that calls for additional research on a certain topic and your study fulfills that aim, point that out as well. If your study fills a gap in the literature, let the editor know.Publications often have specific requests of information to be included with a manuscript or in your cover letter. Ultimately, editors of academic journals want to know that your manuscript will be worth their time if they decide to read it. They need to look at your cover letter and recognize that you are professional, a good writer, a solid researcher, and able to follow directions. If you fail to include the specific details theyve requested, your credibility as a researcher could be damaged before theyve even looked at your research. It doesnt matter how great your research is- it might not make it past the gatekeepers of academic journals if your cover letter is a mess.Include all relevant informationWhile different publications might have specific requests for information that needs to be included in a submission, there are certain things that are standard requirements for a cover letter written to an academic journal editor. These are:The title of your manuscriptThe author(s) of your manuscriptA statement noting that your manuscript has not been previously published and you havent sent it to any other editors for considerationThe background of your studyThe research question you sought to answer in your studyThe methodology you used in your researchThe si gnificance of your research and why it will be useful information to the journals audienceThe name of the journal and why you chose this particular one to submit your work toIf you fail to include the last detail, you run the risk of making your cover letter sound more like a form document that could be sent to any journal. Editors want to know that youve put in the time to find the best publication in which to publish your study. It gives them confidence that your research will be solid and interaction with you, as a writer, will be a smooth process.Keep it brief, professional and error freeYour journal submission cover letter is not the place to go into detail about your academic experience and publishing credits. Its also not the place to name drop, humor the editor, or present an abstract of your research. If the editor is interested in reading more about your research, he or she will have the manuscript to do so. Name dropping will make you seem unprofessional and unable to get your work published on its own merits.Additionally, your manuscript should be free of grammar errors or spelling mistakes. Even the slightest error could mean losing credibility with the editor, because they know if youve carelessly put together a cover letter- the one document that should sell your manuscript- youve likely dont the same with your paper. And no journal editor wants to make extensive corrections to an authors writing. It only makes their job harder and is an unattractive prospect.Carefully reviewing your cover letter for errors could make the difference between being published or passed over. Photo by Bruce Mars from Pexels.Consider following a templateA cover letter for submitting your manuscript to academic journals should be in business letter format, single-spaced, with blank lines between paragraphs. Dont indent the beginning of each paragraph and dont use a font that is difficult to read. Letterhead may be used and a date should be included, along with the sta ndard return address and recipients address.Below is a template to work around to create your journal submission letter. Keep in mind that journals have different requirements and will typically list these submission guidelines on their website. For example, some journals want you to include potential reviewers for your manuscript, along with their contact information. This template should be adapted to include everything they request, as well as specific, brief information about your research and why its important for it to be made available to their readers.Your nameYour street addressCity, State zip codeYour phone numberYour email addressDateThe editors nameThe journals nameThe journals street addressCity, State zip codeDear Ms/Mr. [editors last name],Thank you for the opportunity to submit my original research article entitled [name of article] for your consideration for publication in [name of journal]. In focusing on [the research question of your study], this work builds on p rior studies on [background information related to your research]. Through [briefly discuss your methodology], I believe it fills a gap in the literature by [summarize the significance of your research].In the June 2018 issue of [the name of the journal], you published a study by [authors name] that called for additional research in [your area of expertise]. This manuscript answers that call by presenting various case studies related to [your area of study/research and additional details about your manuscript].[Journal name] seeks to [discuss the scope or vision of the journal] and this research fulfills that aim. It has not been published and is not under consideration elsewhere because I believe your readers are the best audience for it. [Briefly explain why their readers would benefit from reading your work.]Should you find my research appropriate for your publication, I would like to suggest the following reviewers:[Names and contact information of reviewers]Thank you for your c onsideration and I look forward to your response.Sincerely,[Your name]Get someone else to look over itFor researchers, publication in a top-tier journal is an achievement that can mean significant exposure and credibility. Many higher education professors must publish in a peer-reviewed journal in order to gain tenure or even keep their job. These reasons alone should suggest that a cover letter to an academic journal is one document that can make a lot of difference in your life, career, and future. Its not a task to take lightly and should be given the time and attention needed to get it perfect. With this in mind, it is always a good idea to have someone else look over it- preferably a professional copyeditor who is familiar with what needs to go into the letter to make it shine. If you know others who have been successful in getting their research published, either in the journal to which you are applying or elsewhere, go to them for advice on your cover letter. They might have t he exact suggestion you need to make sure the editor pays attention.

Clyde Kluckholm essays
Clyde Kluckholm essays 1. What is the main point and/or argument in the article? "Culture consists of the values (abstract ideals) the members of a given group hold, the norms (definite principles or rules people are expected to observe) they follow, and the material goods they create." -Introduction to Society Anthony Giddens and Mitchell Duneier. This is how culture is defined in our text. In my words culture is the transmission of behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, values, institutions, and tangible goods among groups of people in a society. Now according to Clyde Kluckholm in his article he argues that peoples culture is what makes up a society. He says that the way we get by life is constructed by one's culture. "Culture is like a map- with it you can navigate a society; without it you will be barley human" says Kluckholm. So his main point is that culture is the reason why we exist today. It is how we get by life. It is a concept which controls the way of life for us humans. 2. What theoretical and/or methodological framework does the article use, and what is the evidence for this? In this article Kluckholm proves his theory by comparing and contrasting different parts of the world to each other. Such as the women in Siberia compared to the women here in America; women in America would find the idea of plural wives absurd, however in Siberia they find it absurd if a women is selfish and is not willing to share her man. And throughout the article he gives other examples from other parts of the world. Later in the article Kluckholm demonstrates his theory by explaining and painting a picture of how a society inherits culture. He states that once an individual is "culturalized" he or she feels a sense of belonging, and is obligated to follow the culture passed down to him or her. Kluckholm also displays his agreement with Ruth Benedict's definition to the concept culture; "Culture is that which binds men together." ...

FAMILY BUSINESS CASE STUDY Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4250 words
FAMILY BUSINESS CASE STUDY - Assignment Example The bottom line of the company is affected due to this limited view whereby the competitive abilities and the quality of human capital suffers (Kothari and Tobwala). Essentially the issue with women as leaders in a male dominated society has a lot to do with the stereotypical roles that they are supposed to confine themselves in. This can lead to females having credibility issues and not being able to effectively lead the company. This can negatively impact the company and even cause failure. It effects multiple levels in the company which includes employees and even clients who do not think a woman can run a stable company. This could affect revenue and make it difficult for the company to survive in such an industry. The current scenario between the two sisters in the company can be a cause of sibling rivalry that can outgrow generations. The conflict is mainly between the two sisters. The eldest one belongs to a creative profession and has little know how about the actual business itself whereas the youngest sibling has been working in the business so far and does have the much needed experience. However, the eldest wishes to take charge of the company after her father from the virtue of her being the eldest. If the eldest is given the major chunk of responsibility, this can cause a great source of resentment for the younger sister since she will feel cheated out of her rightful place. Despite her obvious greater experience, if she is not given the position, she will feel that she has been treated unjustly and she might direct her anger towards the older sibling or refuse to work in the company at all. And the impact doesnââ¬â¢t end there, since the eldest daughter does not know much about t he business, her management and business skills are in questions. She will take a lot of time to adjust to the business and a longer time to run it in an effective manner. Most companies cannot handle this impact or adjustment period and the company might run

Response book Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Response book - Essay Example yzed by a car accident at an age of 19 years, but regardless of the physical limitation, he has led a very successful and remarkable life as a world-travelling journalist traversing through the hills or Iran and Afghanistan as well as navigating through the Middle Eastern terrain stretches of sand in his wheelchair. Despite his disability, he has achieved what many able-bodied journalists have only imagined. The depiction of the disabled in this book goes contrary to the contemporary social expectations and attitudes. This is because the disabled people are not given the same opportunities as other people and therefore, they are not expected to amount to something as big as John Hockenberry. Reading this book helped me appreciate the role of wisdom and perseverance in overcoming even the greatest of obstacles. Instead, he is in the front line when covering the refugee stories in war torn Kurdish, Iran and Afghanistan. The most inspiring part is the story he covered in the Gulf war is a steep mountain while clinging to the back of a donkey. His story is that of an extraordinary journalist exceeding the bounds of expectations by venturing into scary situations. Even in the midst of humor, his stories draw the readersââ¬â¢ sympathy. By being a member of the minority group in the society based on his disability, he deeply connects with the dying people in Afghanistan and the dying children in Somalia which looks like his motivation. Despite the major achievement of people with disability, the book presents a society that still holds reservations
